Shade gardens give phlox a chance to show off its blueish lavender flowers in late spring to early summer. Its fragrant flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other long-tongued insects. It is the larval host plant for several moth species, including the Common Idia. Phlox is self-incompatible and requires cross-pollination.
