This yellow, short lived perennial blooms in the fall and reseeds readily and spreads by rhizomes. Plant where this is allowed.

It attracts many pollinators, over 50 species of butterfly and moth use this as a caterpillar host plant, including Great Leopard Moth, Isabella Tiger Moth, and Silvery Checkerspot (Chlosyne nycteis). Recorded specialized bees also use it; Andrena acceptta, Andrena aliciae, Andrena helianthi, Melissodes agilis, Dieunomia heeropoda, Megachile pugnata, and Paranthidium jugatorium.
