Decidious species that is drought-tolerant once established. Offers fall color in shades of orange, red, and yellow. Hurricane-resistant wood. Native Americans taught the early colonists how to tap them to make maple syrup. According to multiple sources – including various state extension offices – it is the sweetest of the Acer species that can be tapped. Can also be used as a bonsai tree.
