Larval host for catalpa sphinx moth (Ceratomia catalpae) and tersa sphinx (Xylophanes tersa).

Prune in winter while dormant. Wood is extremely rot-resistant.

Creates seed pod litter and root suckers. Some consider the leaves to smell bad when crushed.
