This evergreen flower gives a silver-green grass appearance during the non-blooming months. It typically blooms late summer-fall in Florida, offering tiny but abundant yellow flowers; they attract 30+ species of bees and butterflies. It can spread into a small mat, but does not require pruning. Its foliage dries into a silvery color that can be an attractive addition to art and floral work.
Tribes from what is now the Florida Panhandle use it to treat boils, infected cuts, fevers, gouts, ground itch, and rheumatism. Seminoles use an infusion of the plants for cold and fevers; Alice Snow (member of Seminole, 2011) recorded its use for headaches. (1) (2)
