Tolerant of moderate salt spray, and occasional innundation of salt water and brackish water.
This saline loving Solidago species blooms from late summer to fall; the blooms are yellow-gold. If you want a bushier plant, you can prune it early in the season. It self-seeds but doesn’t spread through rhizomes, making it a well-behaved Solidago. Naturally occurs on beach dunes, salt marshes, pinelands, swales, and disturbed areas throughout coastal areas. In gardens, it is excellent as a specimen species or background plant. It’s an ideal choice for coastal restoration.
It attracts many pollinators including monarchs and other butterflies; it’s also a larval host for the wavy-lined emerald (Synchlora aerata) moth. It supports the goldenrod soldier beetle (Chauliognathus pensylvanicus). It supports a number of specialized native bees (see list under Wildlife Value).
Solidagos make good cut flowers. It DOES NOT cause hayfever. Seaside goldenrod was used by Seminoles to treat wounds. (1) (2)
