Evergreen shrub that takes well to pruning and can create a great privacy hedge/thicket; slow grower that typically grows 3-6inches a year. The shrub can also be pruned into a nice tree shape for shade or as a specimen plant. It provides a licorice like aroma when the leaves are crushed. Deer tolerant, drought tolerant, and cold-hardy down to 20°F once established. It produces inconspicious yellow blooms sometime in May-July. The flowers are pollinated by insects, and the evergreen foliage provides shelter for birds and other small wildlife.

It is NOT a substitute for star anise; DO NOT eat this plant.
