Flowers bloom on new growth during late spring to early summer. They attract a large variety of pollinators including numerous native bees, non-native honeybees, wasps, moths, and other insects; the bright, sunburst-yellow blooms have other 650 stamens. It can be pruned after flowering or in early spring; if you want a fuller shrub, prune annually to encourage bushiness. Prefers rich sandy loams but adapts well. The foliage is evergreen. NOT an edible or medicinal species of St. John’s.
