Flowers bloom on new growth during late spring to early summer. Can be pruned after flowering or in early spring. Prefers rich sandy loams. Attracts a variety of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators with flowers containing up to 650 stamens. This plant has larger flowers than other St. John’s Wort.
Tea can be made from the dried flowers and leaves. The tea is traditionally consumed for its calming effects, and can help with mild depression and anxiety. It has a slightly bitter taste, so it is often sweetened or combined with other herbs like chamomile.
