Golden Alexander blooms late spring into summer, with yellow flowers. Though it is the only member of the carrot family that is native to eastern North America, it is not edible. It needs colder temperatures in the winter, so it is not ideal for the Florida coastline. It is the larval host for black swallowtails.

It makes for a decent cut flower that can be used in bouquets and arrangements.
