Fringed Blue Star is winter dormant but blooms from March to June. In fall its leaves turn yellow or orange before dormancy. It grows and flowers best in full sun. In the fall it can be divided if you want more of it. If you prefer it to have a bushier growth habit, you can prune it after it flowers. It attracts many pollinators including Ruby-throated hummingbirds to the nectar. The flowers attract long-tongued insects such as carpenter bees, hummingbird moths, and butterflies. Deer avoid eating bluestar.
