A deciduous shrub that is drought tolerant once established, this shrub produces berries that ripen around mid-late summer. The fruit of this shrub produce a somewhat tangy berry that can be great for jams, pies, lemonades, and more.

Supports the Brown Elfin (Callophrys augustinus) larvae and its nectar is enjoyed by a variety of adult butterflies. Its fruits are eaten by songbirds, small mammals, ruffed grouse, wild turkeys, deer and black bears.
