This is named calico because the centers of flowers change from yellow to a purplish red. They bloom in late summer to early fall, like most other asters. Butterflies pollinate the flowers while deer and rabbits browse the foliage, and birds eat the seed. Calico Aster colonizes aggressively and should be planted in a location where that’s alright. It can also be propagated with division quite easily.
