This clumping bluestar gets yellow leaves in the fall before it goes dormant in the winter. It blooms in the spring with showy blue flowers. Its stems of flowers work great as a cut flower. In the fall it can be divided to make more, smaller plants. Although the plant can grow in partial shade, it flowers and grows best in full sun and may flop over in the shaded areas. It attracts many pollinators including hummingbirds, carpenter bees, hummingbird moths, and butterflies. Deer avoid eating bluestar.
It’s stem can be used as a bast fiber for textile work such as making paper or rope.
