White Cedars are evergreen and should be pruned in late winter or early spring, taking care to remove any dead branches. Deer intensely browse the saplings, and it provides cover for birds and mammals. It is a specimen tree in moise areas with its interesting foliage.

The wood has historically been used for cabins, shingles, and floors. The foliage is excellent for wreaths, Yule logs, holiday decor, and herb bundles. As a headache treatment, a decoction of leaves can be used as an herbal steam, or a poultice made from the crushed leaves and bark can be applied to the forehead.
