This small deciduous tree has an orange fall color. It blooms in the spring with fragrant and prolific white flowers. It fruits small, inedible fruits that are eaten by birds and small mammals. It works well as an understory tree in moist areas, and can be pruned to shape it as either a small tree or a large shrub. It is a host plant for the promethea moth (Callosamia promethea).
