This prickly pear is known from Central Georgia to North Florida west to Central Mississippi and found in pineland areas consisting of sand or grass. This particular prickly pear can be seen growing naturally at our Nursery! With a prostrate growth habit, you will see it spreading along the ground with a branch or two reaching upwards.

Leaf pads, fruit, and seeds are all edible when properly prepared. Cactus has small hair like spines on the pads – handle with care. Common food source for gopher tortoises.
Nectar plant for Meske’s skipper (Hesperia meskei) butterflies.
