This deciduous shrub has red fall color and blooms with white flowers in the spring. It fruits with interesting and showy red fruits in the fall, but they are not edible. The bark is also considered to be interesting. In the right conditions, it can form dense colonies. A variety of birds and wildlife eat the seeds, and it is pollinated mostly by bees.
