This evergreen tree blooms in the early spring with interesting white flowers. It fruits in the late summer to fall, producing poisonous black fruits that are eaten by birds. It can be trimmed as a hedge if desired; the pruning should be done after flowering has finished. It spreads readily with seeds and underground stems. The wood is not wind-resistant.
