A low-growing flower blooms in spring in white, blue, or purple flowers and is useful as a border plant. It is dormant in the winter. It attracts a wide range of pollinators including beneficial sweat bees, bumble bees, bee flies, and syrphid flies with nectar and pollen.

The leaves are edible and can be mixed into a salad. An infusion of the roots helps with diarrhea and constipation.
