This evergreen gree blooms from the spring into the summer with white flowers that are reminiscent of camellias. In the fall, some of its leaves will turn red. It is long-lived and does not generally need to be pruned. It is sensitive to drying out, so it’s best to plant it somewhere wet. Its fragrant flowers attract humminbirds, bees, and flies. It is considered deer-resistant.
The wood is pink and light, and is sometimes used for cabinets or pulpwood.
