An evergreen flower that makes a great groundcover as it spreads by underground rhizomes. Prefers moist and well drained soils, yet can tolerate seasonal flooding. Attracts a variety of pollinators and can give off a golden hue in spring during flowering. Cut back dead stalks after flowering for a neater look.
Historically used by the Cherokee as a contraceptive and for heart trouble.
