AKA: Rusty Staggerbush, Dragon Tree
Rusty Lyonia can be considered an evergreen shrub or small tree. It blooms in the spring with white flowers. New leaves emerge with a rusty orange coloring, and it grows with crooked trunks in an interesting habit. It does well when planted near sidewalks. It attracts many different species of bees, including: Apis mellifera, Bombus impatiens, Colletes brimleyi, C. productus, Agapostemon splendens, Augochlorella aurata, Augochloropsis sumptuosa, Megachile xylocopoides, Oxybelus laetus fulvipes, Stictiella serrata, Tachysphex apicalis, and Stenodynerus lineatifrons.
Sminoles used the wood for making pipe bowls.
