Lavender-blue to white flowers that bloom in the spring. Plants can colonize by self seeding and by underground stolons. Attracts bees, flies, butterflies, and skippers. Larval host plant for Lynx Flower Moth, Obscure Flower Moth, Common Pug, and Wavy-Lined Emerald. The foliage is eaten by rabbits, deer, and livestock.
This is a fleabane species, which can be burnt to repel gnats, flies, and fleas. It is a diuretic, diaphoretic, and a tonic. Cherokee people use it to suppress menstruation, headache, and bleeding. Historically it was used to treat snakebites, by making it into a paste and applying it.
